The latest Health Survey for England (HSE) data shows us that nearly 1 in 4 adults, and over 1 in 10 children aged 2-10, are obese. Obesity can have a severe impact on people's health; increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, some cancers, heart and liver disease, and almost certainly, musculoskeletal issues.

Excess weight is caused by an imbalance between energy in (the food consumed) and energy expenditure (all bodily activities - movement, breathing, digestion etc). Therefore, eating habits and physical activity are primarily responsible for a healthy body weight.

Skipping breakfast prolongs a slower metabolism - which has decreased since you got into bed. Eating something in the morning will kick-start your metabolism for the day; resulting in higher calorie expenditure over the course of the day.

The only way to increase your metabolism is to become more physically active. Lean tissue significantly expends more energy than fat. Therefore, the more you exercise and tone up, the greater number of calories your body will utilise throughout the day, even when you’re not moving!
